I’m Daniel Patchett and I'm a member of team GB. I’ve been fortunate enough to be selected to compete in the world championships being held in Thailand in August 2019. I will be spending a total of 18 days there, during this time my dragon boating team and i will be competing against a variety of nations. I will be competing in a range of distances from 100-2km. This is a fantastic opportunity where I'll be able to represent my country.
I was first introduced to dragon boating back in 2015 when I started teaching children of all ages, this led to me becoming a helm making me responsible for the whole boat. In 2017 I got the opportunity to work as a race helm for some incredible charity race teams. After this I witnessed the creation of Bradford Barracudas at the time known as (TKBB) this got me into the paddling side of the sport and a year later I started to train with Amathus and was then fortunate enough to be asked to train and trial with team GB. Dragon boating is a self-funded sport, therefore as a student I am unable to afford the cost of this trip to Thailand. As the cost of flights, my kit, traveling to training and accommodation are all very expensive. I am hoping to reach my goal of £1,600 anything donations no matter how small would be welcomed, thank you for taking the time to read my story.
